Lead Content Contributor, CribbageBox

Garrett Pegg has been playing competitive cribbage for more than two decades, competing in American Cribbage Congress (ACC)-sanctioned tournaments across New England and the northeastern United States. He is a two-time Vermont State cribbage champion (2009, 2014) and a regular participant in the ACC Grand National tournament.

Background

Garrett learned cribbage at fourteen from his grandfather — a retired postal worker who kept a worn pegboard on the kitchen table year-round. What started as a way to pass winter evenings in Burlington, Vermont became a lifelong obsession.

He joined his first ACC club in 2003 and began competing in sanctioned tournaments shortly after. Over the years he has accumulated more than 500 rated tournament games and mentored dozens of new players through local club play.

Expertise

Garrett’s writing at CribbageBox focuses on scoring, strategy, and the mathematical foundations of the game. His areas of deep specialization include:

  • Discard strategy — expected value analysis of all 15 possible keeps from a six-card hand
  • Pegging tactics — card sequencing, go strategy, and positional play
  • Counting accuracy — systematic methods for counting fifteens, pairs, and runs under time pressure
  • Rules interpretation — ACC official rules, muggins, and tournament etiquette

All strategy articles are reviewed against American Cribbage Congress official rules to ensure accuracy.
